A friend of mine, while preparing for a singlehanded race a few years
ago, tested his ability to pull himself back aboard a moving
sailboat. He had his wife maintain a given speed while he went
overboard, grabbed a trailing line, and attempted to pull himself
back aboard.
He was young and very fit. But at above 4 knots, he was unable to
pull himself back to the boat.
