[worldcruising] Port Campbell

Don't get me wrong Lex, in retrospect, it was the wrong thing to do. It was
daylight and conditions were calm. There are sticks you can use as leads on
the hill, and as we followed these, they led us through a channel of cray
pots. These would have been our undoing in bad weather or poor visibility.
The swell was such that it was dangerous to go near the jetty. We picked up
a mooring buoy for the night, and followed the fishermen out in the morning.
Our yacht is a duncanson 35' with a 5'10" draft.

Wow. You went into Port Campbell.

I've looked at that on the chart and decided that we would not go anywhere
near it. I had a close look at Apollo Bay when we drove to Melbourne a year
or two back and thought that it would be OK - may be a bit "rolly". But
Port Campbell! I am impressed.

How big was the boat you took in there?

Lex

PS Robe is a great port - but if you draw over about 5' you have to wait
till high tide - the harbour is OK but the channel in is a tad on the
shallow side.
