I would stand as far offshore as possible unless I had some local knowledge
about a place worth closing in to and, even then, I would be reluctant to
be close in unless the wind was from the northeast or north. After that it
will just about always back around to the west and the southwest so you
would be on a lee shore (and a very inhospitable one at that).
