While it's certainly my impression that the majority of attacks are on
ships, not small boats, I suspect the reason is similar to the reason Willie
Sutton supposedly gave when asked why he robbed banks, "That's where the
money is." The contents from one good container will be worth a lot more
than the haul from a number of sailboats.
Of course, we are relatively easy pickin's, so staying in groups makes a
lot of sense if you're cruising where small boats have been attacked
recently. Sort of like walking on city streets at night here in the USA.
Most places are just fine, but there are others best avoided. Life offers
so few guarantees...
