We did use ours in the South Pacific, just to minimize having to jerry-jug
water, but most areas had plenty of water ashore. Water quality is another
issue, Giardia is pretty much worldwide as I understand it. In much of the
South Pacific rain is frequent enough most of the time to take care of most
needs.
