Subject: re: [worldcruising] Solent Headsail

A solent head sail is set on a inner head stay just inches aft of the mail genoa headstay. This differs form a stay sail which would be placed back almost halfway to the mast. On a boat with a solent jib the genoa must be furled to tack the boat as there is little clearance between the two stays. The solent is often set up to be self tacking.
Best Regards
Ken
