=What is "Wetsnailers" ?
=

In this case a bit of fun, an inside joke, offered by a man with a similarly
designed boat. As far as Westsailors are concerned, however, Wetsnail is
most often a jealous verbal jab made by those needlessly chained to their
plows for untold decades striving to afford the "perfect boat" they saw in a
magazine somewhere, aimed at those of us who have figured out how to beat
the game by opting for older, proven designs and who are out living the
cruising life. In other words, Wetsnail is used by those who haven't
figured out that the view of paradise is the same from every cockpit.

Of course we Westsailors aren't sensitive about these verbal attacks...at
least not very sensitive...well, maybe it hurts some. Alright, dammit,
calling our boats Wetsnails makes us fighting mad. How about bottle openers
and Heinies at 2 paces?

You get Wetsnail by twisting the letters a bit on Westsail, the fiberglass
production boat that launched the mom & pop, tune-in and drop-out, cruising
movement back in the 1970s. Westsails are heavy, beamy, Collin-archer
double-enders. There is a pretty good article reprinted here
http://216.230.199.217/woa/articles/gob/gobarticle.html . There were five
models of Westsails 28, 32, 39, 42 and 43--of 1000 boats built, over 800
were 32s. I see you have a Dutch address. We have at least two Dutch
members in the Westsail Owners Assn. You could go by to visit their boats,
but unfortunately they are out cruising right now. One in the Carib and the
other in South America.
