This language bruhaha has gotten me thinking... would a person be able to
successfully travel outside the United States with only English spoken?

It seems to me that being able to draw the item I want, or maybe show it
another way would suffice...

I've seen the berlitz pocket translation guides. Should those be
perloined? And, in what languages?

My only spanish was in second grade mumble mumble years ago, though I can
understand "um pokeeto"... (apologies if the spelling is horrid -- i've
never studied the words -- only listened and heard it spoken.
