Hi,

My name is Tom O'Meara. My wife Jackie and I, along with our wonderful
staff, owned and operated St. Brendan's Isle for over 12 years so you can
say I am a bit biased here. :)

We were proud of our reputation in the cruising community. I am also proud
to say that Doug & Linda Moody, the new owners, are just as dedicated to
providing support to cruisers as we were. We sold the business because it
is now Jackie and my time to go cruising.

As a suggestion...

There are several things to check on in your search for a service, but here
is one tip from an "insider". :)

Call or visit your prospective service and ask this simple
question... "How much will you charge me to courier ship a 4 pound packet
of mail to Trinidad?" (I just used Trinidad as an example. Insert the
country of your choice)

Nowadays, people are less willing to wait the one to three weeks required
to receive mail through regular US Postal Service Air Mail methods. They
want the faster (usually 2 to 4 business days) service offered by couriers
such as Airborne Express, FedEx, DHL and others. This cost will vary
TREMENDOUSLY between mail forwarding services and will be the core of your
expense with them.

As a matter of fact, the differences will probably astound you, but I'll
let you discover that for yourself. Hell, most people are astounded to
find that a 4 pound US Postal Service Air Mail packet costs $38.61 in
postage alone... but I digress.

Let your prospective service pick the courier they would recommend (they
are experienced with the best to each location) and give you a price. Then
compare costs.

If you intend to remain in the US, comparing these charges will not be as
interesting to you as some other aspects of choosing a service but it will
give you a relative idea of costs. Call the SSCA office and ask a few
questions. Will also surprise you.

If you have any specific questions about cruiser mail options I'll be happy
to answer them either on list or off. I have a little experience in the
area.:)

Fair Winds,

Tom
