Hi. Just joined after seeing something posted on the Columbia owners' list.
Chris McKesson, age 43. Live aboard a 1968 Columbia 36 with wife of 22 years
and #3 daughter (age 13). Just moved aboard this year after decades of
planning. Short term plans are to go from Puget Sound to San Francisco next
summer, probably stay a year (business opportunity.) Then Mexico. Then ,,,?
By profession am a consulting naval architect. Work for a large national firm
of such, my niche being commercial fast ships such as ferries. Office on the
boat and whacking great cell phone bills when we're away from the marina -
always watching for satellite phone prices to come down!
Am a minimalist sailor - electronics are a handheld VHF and a handheld GPS. Plus two computers and a LAN, but they're for work not for running the boat. Tow a taffrail log, didn't have a mechanical auxiliary until this year, that
sort of thing.
I'll start with one well-discussed subject: Just got my year-end bonus and am
about to order a steering vane. I really like the Cap Horn. Any feedback on
that choice?
