Hello to all from a long time 'lurker'. I may be a bit
late on commenting since I don't get worldcruising
downloaded to me while I'm offshore.
I just wanted to suggest you have a look at the free booklet
'Using d.c. power Fault Protectors' which can be downloaded at
http://www.sto-p.com/power
It gets into the details of why you have to be very careful when
making direct connections to your 12 volt boat electrics.
I get to fix (or toss) about a dozen laptops each year from
fellow cruisers who have powered equipment from their boat
electical system. The booklet explains how and why the
problems occur.
