Thanks for all the responses and advice. I certainly appreciate the various
viewpoints and it have come up with a few ideas based on the posts received.

BTW, My original reason to get a staysail-setup was to act as a backup to
the furler, not necessarily to hold the mast up - though that would be an
added bonus.
