Subject: RE: [worldcruising] Stoves, LPG or Paraffin?

Hi Arthur,
We also have a force 10 stove (circa 1986). Have used it for the last 6
years. In general, we are very happy with it primarily for cooking, but also
as a heat source to suppliment our propane heater. The only problem we have
had is that for a while the valve would not 'lock' open on the oven. I
forget exactly how we had this fixed, but I think they ended up replacing
the thermocouple.

James,
Thank you for your reply.
We can appreciate the problem with the paraffin heaters, and after all the
advice received we are going to purchase a LPG stove and have a little
Primus kerosene stove as backup. I think that is the best compromise in case
that we cannot refill the bottles in remote areas.
We have conflicting reports about the Force 10 and perhaps the problem is
that in the later models they become slack in the quality control.
The report about the Dixon heaters is good. I wonder how are the Taylor
propane stoves.
regards
Arthur
