RE: [worldcruising] Inner forestay

Articles I've read almost always suggest that the cleats/attachment device should not only be backed up well but also should involve a connection from the attachment's underside to either a bulkhead or the keel, etc. These articles also raise the issue of running backstays to counteract the pressure a baby-stay puts on the mast.

In France, I've seen inner-stays attached to a hifield lever (sp?) setup.

mmmmmmmmmm

The mooring cleats at the bow are not heavily reinforced - they have no
backing plates and there is little room to install them due to the "fine"
nature of the bow. Thus my thought of moving them back (actually replacing
them with larger ones) and at the same time using this as a mounting point
for a 2nd forestay.

In any case, my concern is whether I need an actual forestay or will a wire
luff inside a heavy sail do the job without a forestay.
