Visas are obtained mostly as you go along. Most visas must be used
within a certain time period. So, it's impractical to collect a
bunch of visas for all the places you might want to eventually visit
as some permissions to enter the country are only valid for six months
to a year.

Also, some countries require a preapproved visa before you arrive,
others will stamp one into your passport as you check in. Much
depends on your nationality, the nationality of your crew, the hailing
port on your hull, and that countries relations with the country you
are now visiting. This State Department listing will help sort it
out: http://travel.state.gov/foreignentryreqs.html

The obtaining of visas is a major occupation of the cruising fleet in
far off places. You have to visit the embassy or consulate of the
country you want to visit next while in the country you are currently
visiting. Alternately, these things are done via mail as well, but
in person is preferable, given the speed and reliability of foreign
mail service.

acquire
: all the Visas required if you were say cruising Europe, or Oceana?
