Hello all,

As I'm preparing to go on a sabbatical cruise to the Carribean, I'm going
to get a length of (???) as long as my backstay to serve in an emergency if
it (or any shroud) parts or needs emergency replacing.

I've always read that 1x19 wire is what to get, but since Spectra (or
Vectran or some other high tensile, hi tech line) can be just as strong but
easier to store and work with than a large coil of wire, would I be just as
"safe" getting the line rather than wire. Perhaps using 7x19 wire is the
way to go since it can be coiled smaller and more easily worked. The boat
is a Nordic 44 with rod rigging. The backstay is -17 rod and the smaller
shrouds are -12.

Since I can't take rod, and getting an attachment to the mast with wire
might be problematic anyway, I'm leaning toward line since at least I can
tie it to the mast.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Fair Winds,

Larry sv Destiny, Nordic 44
