My 2 cents as a charter boat owner: In the Puget Sound region my
experience has been that the charter boat owners in our area keep their
boats as well maintained, or better, than the average week-end sailor does
his boat. When something does need to be repaired it is usually done right
away rather then on a "get around to it" basis and usually the work is done
by a pro rather than a "do-it-yourselfer". I've also observed that the
charter boats in our area tend to be a little more decked out with
equipment ("goodies and toys") and probably this is because of the
competition amongst the various charter boats to lure bookings. Also very
few boats in this area are what you might call "tupperwear" boats made
specifically for the charter industry and build with a short life span in
mind. So like buying any boat it just depends on the individual boat you
are looking at. Doug
