I'd carry Spectra and/or 7x19 galvanized wire, with Crosby clips, thimbles
and turnbuckles. Of course, the best would be to replace the backstay rod (if
it's old) and check the fittings carefully before you go. It's not likely
that you'll go aloft in conditions which might part a backstay.
