Doug & John,

We sold both the Village Marine and Spectra units and I believe they are
both great watermakers, especially compared to Purs.

They come at the problem from two different directions however. The
Village Marine unit is pretty much bulletproof, but at a different
technology level than the Spectra. The Spectra is high-tech, and more
power efficient... but MUCH more costly.

I do not have the long term results back on the Spectra units we have sold,
but they look good so far.

In a nutshell:

Village Marine is tough, long lasting and relatively inexpensive. Uses
what would, in the recent past, be considered a "normal" amount of wattage
to produce a gallon of water. Parts are cheap and readily available.

Spectra also appears to be very durable (from my experience so far), but is
also very expensive. Uses what is considered to be the lowest current
draw to produce a gallon of water of any watermaker in its class.

Got a decent battery bank and charging system? Save the bucks and go with
the Village Marine.

Got limited amps and no way to replace'em? Spend the extra money and get a
Spectra.

Fair Winds,

Tom
