Right now, I'm an inland lake sailor who is looking forward to
retirement and eventually joining the ranks of the cruisers and
seeing exotic, farflug ports of call...do I sound like a travel
brochure yet? :-)
Obviously, I need a lot more sailing experience before I attempt any
bluewater, but I am trying to plan finances. To that end, I'm trying
to figure out exactly how much boat I need to (a) have enough room
for a cruising couple (perhaps plus one), and (b) have enough boat to
be 'safe' - however that's defined these days.
I'm not looking for specific boat brand names, I need more general
information as to *type* of boat, minimum length/displacement, hull
type, keel type, etc.
In other words, would you laugh, pity or applaud me if I took a
Flicka to Hawaii? What's the minimum amount of boat YOU would
consider for trips such as California to Hawaii or Fla Keys to
Bermuda?
I know that 'room' and 'comfort' are subjective, I'm looking for
minimum specifications so I know where to start looking.
Any and all responses appreciated.
