    Mel,

    Good luck chasing those fish!

As an inexperienced owner of a 41' sport fish equipped with 450 hp Detroit
671TI's, this is a question that I have pondered since buying the boat. I
do know that my temperatures, water, exhaust and drive oil, all remain in
the normal operating range while trolling. We troll at times with one
engine neutral and the other idle for hours on end and the whole time I'm
wondering about the engines. I used to wonder about the transmissions too
until I confirmed with the manufacturer that this is ok. Our Z/F
transmissions can be fitted with a "trolling valve" to facilitate slower
trolling if necessary. One engine idle moves us at about 4.5 kts in smooth
water, slow enough for our style of fishing.

I worry about oil pressure more than anything else. At idle it drops to
    less than half of normal.

    Any insights are appreciated.
