A couple of the carriers we represent require surveys on boats over 5 yea=
    rs
of age, one on boats over 7 years of age, most on boats over 10 years of
age, and one on boats over 12 years of age. Once they are insured (and of=

those ages), they typically want a new survey every 5 years.

On fiberglass boats, all but the former will accept an survey done afloat=
    ,
and in every case they only want an insurance survey, not a full blown,
    pre-purchase survey.
