    We started off using our Verizon cell phone for broadband access. We had to
    be sure the phone was always charged and we lost the use of it as a phone
    when we had it hooked up to the computer. For the same monthly charge, we
    have unlimited broadband coverage with a USB aircard. The phone(s) are
    available (the aircard is on a different number) and the aircard works off
    the computer power supply. We use Skype for much of our telephone
    communications and have been able to cut our cell phone coverage to the
    minimum plan. We also have a marine antenna hooked to the aircard for better
    coverage. One of this is cheap, but it works except in the darkest holes of
    the Carolinas, Georgia, and Maine where cell coverage itself disappears.
    When in the Bahamas (where we pay for WiFi when we can't find it for free),
    a simple phone call or email allows us to suspend the service until we
    return.
