As Jeff has argued, and I agree, you are almost certainly better off
with a teathered smartphone than an aircard. For instance, if you
use a GSM Treo, you can activate it with T-Mobile on a thirty dollar
a month voice plan. Unlimited data is fifteen dollars a month on top
of that. The computer/phone connection can be elegantly handled by
PDANet (www.junefabrics.com). That gives you a phone and unlimited
data (both on your laptop and for mobile web browsing, which, once
you have tried it, will quickly become indispensible).
