    For what it's worth, what you are looking for are American Standard nuts.
    Since 1949 when the Unified Standard was agreed upon 1/2" thread is 13 tpi. (as
    you already know)So, I think you need to find an old machine shop that might
    still have an old tap of that size. Or find a shop that can make you some.
    Is it possible to replace the studs?

    I am in the process of rebuilding rudder shafts and cleaning the packing
    glands and studs. To my surprise the studs are threaded 1/2"-12. That
    used to be a common thread but now does anyone know where I can get
    Stainless nuts 1/2"-12?
