While this looked like a good idea, it didn't work out...
While the SR-161 does indeed mix the GPS data with the AIS data,
neither my Raymarine C-80 dipslay, or a couple of PC chart programs,
would accept GPS data on the same port as AIS, so I'm stuck with using
two serial ports on the computer, and sending the GPS NMEA data into
the SeaTalk system via the autopilot.
