Most of the computer based navigation programs offer variable chart
magnification. The one I use, GPSNavX, lets me vary chart size from 15% of normal to
400% of normal. The larger magnifications let you read the smallest details
easily, even on a 12" computer screen. Of course you see less of an area.
If you mean that the numbers on the real navigation markers have gotten
smaller, use a good quality binocular as a visual aid. I dangle a wonderfully sharp
40 year old Leitz Trinovid 8x20B around my neck most of the time I am on my
boat. Folded, it is smaller than a couple of rolls of Life Savers (do they
still make those?) and fits easily into a shirt pocket. Also get your eyes
examined every half dozen years or so. I did recently and the new prescription clears
things up quite a bit.
