    I have found that when a solenoid begins to go bad, it will not pull the
    same distance as when it was new. I guess that an interior winding degrade
    is what causes the final failure. Check first the see what the full
    distance of travel is (being sure you have full power to the solenoid) and
    compare it to the manufacturer specs of the part.
    It may just be a normal failure about to happen....worn out.
