    You want to really see a disparity in performance and price? Check out an
    aviation unit! Slower, less info, huge cost, closed database, hours of
    focused training to use properly, etc.
     
    And follows Ward's Rule of Cost (sometimes the exact same part in a
    different box): Automotive - $1. Marine - $2. Aviation - $5. Partially due to
    consequences of errors, but mainly high volume, competitive markets drive costs
    (and prices) down.
     
    As someone said - it's the chip technology and the processing power. Price
    an 8 GB thumb drive - $30. Two years ago that was essentially unobtanium.
    Five years ago my medium performance laptop only had a 4gig hard drive, and I
    was sitting tall in the geek saddle!! 18 months is an entire generation.
