We installed a SeaCAS combination AIS + GPS antenna and system box on
our 32 ft. down-east cruiser about one year ago. I worked great plugged
into the USB port, giving both AIS and GPS input to our laptop, thus
serving as a completely redundant navigation system to the ship's
permanently mounted Raymarine hardware.
Last month the SeaCAS system started to act a little bit flacky, still
working but requiring a bit of coaxing and wiggling of connectors from
time to time. After a quick consult with SeaCAS, Fred Pot, the owner
and developer of the system asked me to send him the unit for evaluation
and repair. Shortly thereafter SeaCAS repaired and returned the unit
without any charge whatsoever. Now that is great customer service for
an 18 month old electronic gizmo.
The usual disclaimer applies. We have no connection with SeaCAS other
than being very satisfied customers.
