I have 1/2" sight glasses on my Albin, and I just use the clear tubing you
can get at any marine supplier. (Plain clear, not reinforced) It has to be
changed out about every 2 or 3 years as it get stained by the red dye and
gets hard to see through, but I've never had it leak. After 3 years when I
change it out, its still flexible and easy to change. I installed rope
lights (switched off when not reading) on the back side of mine, and a yard
stick next to it so it's easy to read.
The main thing to avoid potential disaster is to keep the lower valves
closed except just to take a reading.
