    I believe there is a disconnect here.
     
    What was stated could be true of the Gulfstar 44 motoryacht but in my
    opinion, I don't see how it could apply to the Gulfstar 43 trawler which definitely
    does have a full displacement hull.
     
    Our Gulfstar 36 trawler had twin Perkins 4.154 engines of 80 hp each. Top
    speed was between 7 and 8 knots. And from what I was able to find out at the
    time, that was either at or very close to hull speed. I do know that no matter
    how hard I pushed the boat, it never made any attempt to get on plane.
     
    Although there was a difference in overall length and in power, the cruising
    characteristics of our 36 and the 43 were identical because the hulls of
    both were what the Lazarras were using for their motorsailors. They simply
    modified them only enough to enter the trawler market. That's the main reason
    these boats are so economical to operate.
