Regarding bicycles I believe I have another
    perspective.
I have been dependant on my electrically
assisted bicycle for over 15 years now, even
    before buying my boat.
Since moving aboard I have discovered a hidden
truth: COVER your bike well, and then HEAT it
    inside the cover!

I have been using a barbeque cover, available from
    Lowes, for 'large' BBQ's.
After placing the cover over my bike I insert the
    real secret... Goldenrods.
Yes I am telling the truth!

Aside from (even a month after) being blown
into the bay, the bike chain was still in very
good condition, I had to insist that it be
    replaced!

So, to reiterate, ANY bicycle can last for years
if covered well and warmed with a couple of 36
    inch "Goldenrods"
