I installed a new Isotemp basic 6 gal water heater ($599 in Defender
catalog) two months ago, before starting our long trip. It has a 316
stainless tank, stainless cover, and urethane foam insulation. Heat is by
engine coolant loop and 750 watts of 120v AC. It has a clever mounting that
lets you mount it on a floor, overhead, or wall surface. And it keeps its
heat well, at least 60 hours and 6 navy showers. I'm delighted with it. It
also comes in 11, 13, and 20 gallon sizes if you have the room.

I almost bought the much cheaper Force10/Seaward/Kuuma unit, about $250.
But its tank is aluminum, and there's no reasonable way to mount it on a
wall, you must have floor space for it.
