Hi Mark - Good to hear you are underway again. And, thanks for the
information. Soon after purchasing Seahorse, I emailed Lugger's service dept asking
for info on maintenance of our Lugger 668D (Deere 6068) engine. Some of these
items are not on the suggested routine maintenance list in the owner's
manual. Here's the reply:
As a general rule 5000 hours is a good time to do the following if it has
not been done:
injectors
fuel pump calibration
clean heat exchanger
Raw water pump
flush cooling system
Replace coolant
inspect or Replace hoses
Rebuild starter
Rebuild Alternator
rebuild coolant pump
At this time we have just over 5500 hours and this work either has been done
or will be as soon as we return aboard in a couple of weeks.
Regards,
John
"Seahorse"
>As Mike pointed out, I should have checked the pump and alternator bearings
before starting out on a 6000 mile trip from Florida to Canada and return.
It's about a 30 minute job. This is only the second failure of my Deere in
11 years and 6200 hours, so I'm a very happy customer (the other was the
fuel lift pump, $52). Tony commented that many Deere coolant pumps need
rebuilding around this time, too bad the service manual doesn't offer this
gem.
