For room lights in different compartments I use #14 wire from a 5 amp
breaker a to a Blue Sea "dual bus plus" then take off to each LED fixture for 4-5
fixtures per compartment. They draw about 1/3 of an amp each at 12VDC. I
want to add a CO detector to the same bus. It draws about the same low amperage.
If it malfunctions it would be easy to disconnect from the bus and if it
triggers the breaker I would be certain to notice since the lights would be
affected. On it's own circuit it might trigger its breaker without me ever
noticing. I can't find a rule against this but I feel sure there is one. However I
don't see why this set up would not be a reasonable exception to the rule.
    Have I missed anything?
