To all - I have two sets of tachs on my Lehman-powered trawler (two helm
stations) and they all read different, even when synched by ear. I know how to
(and did) adjust them, but would like to know what rpm the engines are really
turning. Harbor Freight (the purveyor of all things cheap and sometimes
acceptable performance) has an infrared tach for the low price of only $60. Not
bad - but I went on eBay and found a similar unit for $20 total shipping
from Hong Kong. How can they do it?!
One is on a plane now (hopefully) headed for America.
I guess an accurate tach is not really that critical for a boat, but on my
airplane I had one that was 200 rpm off which was a real problem when setting
fuel flow based on an erroneous power setting...
Anyway - I'll let you know how inaccurate they were. Anybody in New Bern
that wants to borrow it - come on over. Thanks, JeemboNC
