    You can take out all of the chain and put the plastic tiles that
    clamp together down there, and then that should stop most of the noise.

    You could try blowing up a beach ball, old car inner tube or
    something akin to that and stuffing it on top of the chain.

    Or, if the area is fiberglass, some old fluffy towels for the chain
    to rest on might also work...
