I have been following this thread with great interest. It should be
noted that ABYC recommendations are sometimes influenced by the personal
interests of the people sitting on the committee. Joe Charles (Charles
Industries) on xformers made sure the specs only fit his xformers
although there are other designs that don't need to have the same
shielding specs. There are new technologies that are more effective than
current ones that are blocked in committee because they upset the norm,
such as in the area of fire suppression.
Although ABYC is, for the most part good, it is not the absolute answer.
