I had this problem with grass and weed covered areas in the Hudson and LI
Sound. The fix was to sharpen the flukes and points of a Danforth HT anchor to
the point where they would slice through the overgrowth and set reliably.
While
not sharp enough to shave with, the flukes will certainly cut butter.
Admittedly the sharpening process removes the galvanizing on the edges but I
can live
with that. Just resharpen every couple of years. We have used this anchor in
Florida and Chesapeake Bay with good results. Just remember to avoid protected
or sensitive areas. Don't want to damage the ecosystem.
