    Larry,
The Algonac puller is a nice piece of equipment, but a little dear for using
once every 2 or three years. I made my own puller from two round aluminum
plates, a half inch bolt, and three 12" long x 3/8" threaded rods.

The first round plate (about 6" dia x 3/8" or thicker) goes just behind the
prop. Drill 3 clearance holes for the threaded rods near the OD, and tap a
center hole (1/2-20 fine thread) for a center bolt. The second round plate
has a cutout (2" wide for my 1.75" shaft) going from one edge to the
center, to allow this plate to slip over the shaft just forward of the prop.
It also has 3 clearance holes for the threaded rods near the OD, just like
the first plate. Assemble this contraption with the threaded rods with
washers and nuts and tighten till snug. Now tighten the center 1/2" bolt on
the back of the prop shaft until tight as a bowstring. Now strike the prop
on the front end of the hub with a 2x4, and it will pop free. After a
little practice, this contraption can be used underwater with a hooka
breathing apparatus. It just takes a little longer than the proffessional
    pullers.
