    Hello Michael,

You can check out any motor transporter here (boats, furniture, cars, etc.):

    http://www.safersys.org/

Details of operations, frequency of violations (all seem to have some, perhaps
it is unavoidable), crash rates (wow), their insurance, etc. is all there by
name, DOT number, etc. I would think the factory could recommend some names to
    check out.

2 years ago I moved my 34 foot trawler from CA to WA. Previously, I had talked
with several "movers" (prominent advertisers on the internet, and linked to
YachtWorld, etc under the "get a quote for moving" links) who turned out to be
"brokers" instead- no trucks, only phones and fax machines. All wanted me to
sign a contract immediately, and wanted deposits before even getting all the
details of the boat. Only after signing a "contract" was I told the "firm
price" quoted was only about 1/2 of what the real charge would be, as the boat
was over 13.5 feet tall. I never paid a cent and never called them back.

I finally found a real local mover (with trucks) that was intimately familiar
with my boat exactly, as they delivered hundreds of them for many years. We
arranged addresses dates, phone numbers, and a contract was faxed back and
forth. I paid NO deposit. They said "we will have your boat. Meet the truck
with a certified check." I met the truck at both ends, did what needed to be
done (lots less than what the brokers say). Yes, they did hit a small tree in
town, after a thousand miles, only a mile from the delivery point, but the
driver apologized and pointed it out. The little scratch buffed out by hand,
    no big deal.

    Good Luck!

We are having our new-to-us boat shipped cross country later this month. Does
anyone know how to check out a truckers shipping records and what to look
    for?
