Like I said in a previous post. I duscussed this point with Bob Smith since the previous owner of mine used Rotella 15-40.
He said there is no problem at all continuing with 15-40.
Like you I am a multiweight fan for many reasons. Not worth fighting about, but rest assured neither you nor I will have an oil related engine failure because we use 15-40. Neither will those fans of single weight oils. It is impoortant to change it on a somewhat regular basis and to use a diesel rated oil. And I don't care what brand filter you use..pick one.
I will however "discuss" at length over which brand of vodka tastes better with a garlic stuffed olive...now that's serious and more critical.
    Cruise on.

In all the posts about Multi-wieight oil vs. single weight oil I find it
interesting that I never saw a quote from the Lehman engine manual. I finally
got to the boat and found that our copy dated June 1987 for the SP models
states oil should meet Ford specifications which are listed. It also has a
chart that shows we should use:10w below 68 degrees f.20w/20 between 32
degrees f and 90 degrees f30w above 68 degrees f.Now the interesting part:
those of us fortunate enough to live in the Pacific Northwest should obviously
be using 10w or 20w. BUt try and find Rotella 10w or 20w!! The Shell
wholeslaer in Kirkland WA said Shell makes it but he has never had any call
for it. And that is when I began using Rotella multi-weight instead of 30w.
Also the wholesaler assured me that Shell multi-weight and straight weight are
'missive' meaning they can safely be combined. All the recent posts have made
me think about going back to 30w but that has got to be hard on the engine for
winter starting (and often even for summer starting!) <<<Gary Ritzman>>> M/V
