Hi Scott -
I guess you missed my post on arcing faults, huh?
Good to see that you did dodge a bullet. The neutral carries the unbalanced
load - if everything is set up right there should not be much current flowing
in it - most should be split between the 2 "hots." I respectfully suggest
you investigate the imbalance and correct it. It may be as easy as moving a few
breakers from one "hot" bus to the other in your onboard panel.
Regards,
John

>Imagine my horror when I disconnected them yesterday morning and found the
neutral had completely melted and was floating freely in goo. Even though I
was putting my hand on the parts every few hours it was melting right in
front of my eyes and I didn't know it. There were no indications in the
boat or at the shore power circuit breaker. Amazing, as I would have
thought the breaker would trip? The net of this for me is WARM is BAD. It
doesn't have to be HOT to be bad! Also, ANY signs of burning will be
addressed immediately by me in the future! Anything less then bright silver
contacts will be unacceptable.
