    Sailors want the wind just aft of the beam. A broad reach is usually the
    fastest point of sailing. Too much danger of an unintentional jibe if the wind is
    behind. Following seas or waves, if they overtake the boat, may cause it to
    broach. Best is a brisk beam wind of about 15 to 20 knots and gentle seas on a
    nice sunny day. It happens about once a summer.
