Something often seen but not mentioned is shore cable immersion. Neither the
cable jacket nor the conductor insulation are impervious to water molecules
migrating through them and into the conductors. Shore cables should never be
allowed to be immersed in water; this will eventually corrode the
conductors, and allow minor current flow between them, usually far from the ends where
their condition may be seen. A simple ohmmeter test will reveal any high
resistance.
