    Brent,

Since we rarely see conditions of no wind at all, almost all of our boating
is done with some velocity of wind, and therefore, some sea state, no matter
how small. Those sea states can be classified as head seas, beam seas, or
    following seas.

In beam seas, unless you've got stabilizers, the rock and roll is no fun
when the seas get to three feet and above (heck, 2' and above for many
boats). Bashing into head seas can be no fun either. As such, I'll take the
following seas any day, and as such, when someone wishes me a "following
sea", I smile and gladly accept the blessing. Of course, to get a following
sea, yes, the wind has to be at my back.

Seeing your distaste for following seas, I'll gladly trade you some of the
head seas I see too often for some of your following seas, and consider I've
got the better part of the bargain! :-)

    Kevin
