Next message: C. Marin Faure: "T&T: Onan MDJE excessive noise?? or is it just me??"
hi all, im concerned for a MDJE that came in a 1974 post i bought a
while back, ive gone thru the whole unit, needs several seconds to
start when its below 40 outside but runs great, even under full load,
and although has lilttle hours for its age, 3100 roughty, its sounds
like the pistons are slamming into the head on every stroke, i mean
hard knocking up there, like sledgehammering on the engine block, ive
actually shut it down and gone over everything to make sure all is good
on several occasions, lets say just for referance, on initial startup
it starts knocking immidiatly at about 60db's on the glow plug for the
first 20-45 seconds, then goes to 90 at about a minute and stays there
for a few minutes and gradually starts dropping and levels off at
between 70-80db's, you can barely hear the person yelling right next to
you while sitting down there during this, fuel is clean and fresh, temp
seems normal, and oil pressure starts slightly above 60, then drops to
45-50 when warm and is stable, is this normal? am i missing something?,
