While I certainly am not a water expert, I think it is possible that we are
confusing Reverse Osmosis purified water with De Ionized water. Very pure multi
million ohm de-ionized water is pretty corrosive, and maybe it would not be
good to drink, depending on what it contacted on the way to your cup.
