T&T: Engine loss

    Cause of engine loss:
"...and the other a fried seized alternator bearing which disables the engine
as the same belt drives raw and coolant pumps...."

That's an interesting point I hadn't thought about in a long time.
A well designed marine engine, and I would hope heavy duty diesels in general,
should ideally have all gear driven accessories; next best design is having
whatever is belt driven on it's own belt and not a "mission critical"
    function.

When selecting a new boat, or twin vs single engines, an automotive accessory
design with many functions on a single belt should be a factor. Not my cup of
    tea.
